How to use the Discord Timestamp Generator
- Choose the date and time. Use the quick buttons for Now, +1 hour, +1 day and more.
- If the time is in another time zone, for example 8 PM in New York, choose that zone. The time is read as a time in that zone.
- Click a format, or its Copy button, to copy the code, like
<t:1791763200:F>. - Paste it into any Discord message, channel topic or event description. Discord turns it into a date in each reader's time zone.

How Discord timestamps work
A Discord timestamp is a Unix timestamp, the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 UTC, wrapped in <t: and >, with an optional letter for the style. Because a Unix timestamp is the same moment everywhere, Discord can show it in each person's own time zone. The relative style updates live, so in 10 minutes becomes in 9 minutes without anyone editing the message.
Tips
- Combine styles for clear announcements:
<t:1791763200:F> (<t:1791763200:R>)shows the full date followed by a countdown. - Timestamps work in messages, embeds, channel topics, forum posts and event descriptions, but not in server or channel names.
- Bots can make them too: in discord.py use
discord.utils.format_dt(dt, "R"), and in discord.js usetime(date, TimestampStyles.RelativeTime). - On phones, long-press a timestamp in Discord to see the full date and time.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the timestamp show a different time for my friends?
That's the point: each person sees the moment in their own time zone. 8 PM in New York appears as 1 AM to someone in London and 9 AM the next day in Tokyo.
Can I make a countdown in Discord?
Yes, use the relative style (R), for example <t:1791763200:R>. It shows "in 2 hours" and updates on its own, then switches to "5 minutes ago" once the time has passed.
How do I read a timestamp someone else posted?
Paste the tag, or just the number, into Read a Discord timestamp to see the date and time it stands for.
What happens if I leave off the letter?
<t:1791763200> uses the default style, short date and time (f).
Is anything sent to Discord or a server?
No. The codes are built in your browser. Discord only sees them when you paste them into a message.
