How to read hex as text
Take the hex two digits at a time. Each pair is one byte: convert it to a number (hex to decimal) and look it up in the ASCII table. 48 65 6C 6C 6F → 72, 101, 108, 108, 111 → Hello.
Formats this decoder accepts
- Spaced pairs:
48 65 6C 6C 6F - One long string:
48656C6C6F - With prefixes:
0x48 0x65orHe - Percent-encoding:
%48%65
Multi-byte UTF-8 sequences are joined back together, so E0 B8 82 becomes the Thai letter ข and F0 9F 98 80 becomes 😀.
If the result looks wrong
- An odd number of hex digits means one is missing: every byte needs two.
- Letters outside A–F (like G or O) aren't hex. O is often typed instead of zero.
- Hashes like MD5 or SHA-256 are hex, but they aren't text, so they decode to gibberish.
